24.03.08: Cathy Fletcher (nee Maughan) March 2008: Nick Chatwin... I met up with Charles Miskin in the summer. He now lives in France in Agen, with his wife Carolyn. They don’t have a family but are slowly buying up all the houses in their village (Beauville). Currently they have a town house in the village square, a small one bedroom rental cottage, and enormous barn (ideal for a conversion but currently full of his ‘stuff’) and a partially built ‘villa style house. In his spare time he is servicing/repair the swimming pools for all the ex-pats in that part of France. A good life if you can get it. 23.12.07: Pete Musgrove: Love the site. Evoked all kinds of memories. I was in the dreaded Block
4 in 1982-83. I say dreaded because if you remember it only had 2 rooms and upstairs was the Ina Gribble [general matron of the place].
Names I remember from that period: Great days.
Have just created a website of spoof news stories, some of which feature Loughborough. www.petermusgrove.com | |||||||||
![]() July 2007: Phil Riley... (From The Guardian): The Chrysalis Radio chief executive, Phil Riley, has announced he would stand down following the company's acquisition yesterday by Global Radio, the investment group led by former ITV chief executive Charles Allen. Mr Riley, who has helmed the company for 13 years, first as managing director and then as chief executive, stood down from the board immediately and will leave the chief executive role in the next few weeks. He told MediaGuardian.co.uk he had decided not to join the new firm as he wanted a change. Mr Riley said he would take a short break before looking at other opportunities, adding that he was still interested in the radio sector. "I think radio is at a very interesting point in its development," he said. "There is still lots of consolidation activity to run." Phil is married with three children (who take up most of his spare time)! However, when he can escape, he likes to keep fit and has competed in a number of triathlons over the past two years. May 2006: Hilary Shaw returns... calling in at Loughborough in late May 2006, as she was passing (as you do), and she send the following observations: "I can report that Telford dining hall is now a fitness centre, which is ironic thinking of the food we used to eat in there. 04.01.06: Update from Steve Floyd: Steve Floyd (76-79) now back working in God’s County, Cornwall, as an Independent Financial Adviser, after leaving London in 1991 to live in Cornwall but commute weekly to work in London, Slough and other exotic locations. All very complicated. 27.02.06: Nick Chatwin found the web site by chance. I was in Telford 1978-81 and now live in Yeovil, Somerset. Still employed in the Royal Navy as I was when I was at Loughborough.
16.11.05: Helen Thornton (now Gee) found the site via Friends Reunited (where else?).
05.11.05: René Beumer was at Telford from 77 to 78 (before I escaped to Nottingham!). I was at Loughborough from 77 to 81, studying electrical & electronic engineering. At the time I don’t think I was quite grown up enough to fully appreciate the student life - 28 years on and I’m just about ready now!! 07.01.05: Mick Walby has discovered the website: It's good to see there is a small but dedicated bunch of OT's still keeping in touch. I was at Telford in 1977-1981, a past secretary under chairmanship of Graeme Cornforth. I now live in Penicuik, 12 miles South of Edinburgh and work for Scottish and Newcastle UK. Job title is Demand Manager and involves looking after a team doing forecasting and system maintenance. Married to Carole and we have 2 boys Craig 18 and Gareth 15. 07.08.04: Shehan Wijetilaka now in Killara, Sydney, Australia says: I had 3 great years at Telford (1985-88) whilst completing my Electronics Engineering & Physics degree. I l now live in Sydney, Australia and work in the IT industry. My favourite memory of life at Telford? The great plotting with the guys on Level 7, Whitworth to trap the regular food-thief that visited the kitchen round mid-night on most weekends. 03.04.04: Charles Miskin found us via Friends RU: I was at Telford for 4 years from 1978 - 1982, studied Mech Eng (occasionally) though I was very active in the various societies and hall activities.... especially those Hall Balls and discos. In the photo I was Maintenance Rep.. later Hall Chairman. We used my Landrover to successfully acquire Thor amongst other things. I Joined BP - who had sponsored me at Lufbra, worked in the UK and overseas for about 10 years drilling for Oil. I moved to a Drilling company, then for a "pan-industry body" but now I am working independently as a Consultant. The current plan, though, is to sell up in Aberdeen (and, yes, sell the Landrover too) then move out to Southwest France where we have a couple of major house renovation projects to do. See www.rescat.co.uk. Married, but no children. 17.12.03: It was with great sadness that we learned that Ros Baggs (nee Temple) died in November from severe complications relating to her diabetes and other factors. Thanks to Liz Morgan for the sad news; Liz said: "I am sure you will remember her as the fun loving, laughing, kind, generous, fabulous person that was Ros." Beautifully put. 14.12.03: Thanks to Jim O'Mahony for sending in some photos from the unforgettable Men v Women rugby match in about 1977. See Old Photos. 07.12.03: An OTs re-union was held at the Punch & Judy, Covent Garden in London. Attendees were Hilary Shaw, Christine Wainman, Pete Allen, Nick Stone, Garry Pierrepont, Steve Floyd, Eric Lange, Jim O'Mahoney, Dave Hedley, Sue Ward. It was another chance to turn back the calendrical clock and act 20 all over again! Unfortunately, with brain cells now deteriorating at an alarming rate, no-one remembered to bring a camera! 07.07.03: A message from Colin Kennedy: I was at Loughborough from 1971 to 1975 studying Aero. Eng. Peri (nee Journet) was there from 1974 to 1976 doing LPEME. In September 1976 we married and emigrated to Australia. We live in Sydney and have three boys. We get back to England at least once per year and regularly catch up with some friends who were in Telford with us. Do you know if there are any other old Telford people in Australia? 28.03.03: Thanks to Hilary Shaw who has sent a collection of half-a-dozen photos from around 1977. See Old Photos. 23.03.03: Terry de la Mothe has sent in a photo of himself and Clive Mackay at a party in around 1976 - see Old Photos. There is also a picture of Clive Mackay and two of his three children in 2003 - see New Photos. 05.03.03: Steve Floyd has sent in a photo of his family taken in 2002. This can be seen under the new heading on the left, New Photos. What a great idea, Steve, and can we have more photos - both old and new for the website, please? |
